Fluxi HEMS – Taking smart control of your energy consumption

Project context

The client wanted a centralised tool to track and optimise the use of their 9.36 kWp photovoltaic installation with a 10 kWh battery and a digital meter. Portals provided by inverter manufacturers or energy suppliers are often limited or hard to use for fine-grained cost optimisation.

The main objective was to build a system capable of aggregating heterogeneous data (inverters, powermeter, P1 meter, supplier API, Elia forecasts) and offering automatic battery control logic based on electricity prices, weather and consumption profiles.

Functional objectives

  • Visualise consumption and production by quarter-hour and by day
  • Predict next-day solar production and consumption
  • Build a battery charge/discharge schedule to minimise the bill
  • Account for regional specifics (e.g. the capacity tariff in Flanders)
  • Offer a clear, accessible and responsive interface

Technical architecture and integrations

Fluxi HEMS is built on a modular architecture developed mainly in PHP (backend and business logic), with a MariaDB database to store the time series (measurements, tariffs, forecasts, battery schedule).

The various data sources (Huawei inverters, powermeter, DSMR meter, Elia API, dynamic tariffs) are integrated through ingestion scripts and MQTT services to guarantee near real-time updates.

Key features of Fluxi HEMS

Real-time monitoring

Instant visualisation of PV production, household consumption, grid flows and battery state of charge. Curves can be filtered by hour, day, month or type of use.

Solar and consumption forecasting

Combining the regional solar forecast (Elia) with the installation's consumption history to anticipate energy surpluses or shortfalls over the coming days.

Battery optimisation

Automatic generation of a charge/discharge schedule based on electricity prices, sunshine forecasts and the client's needs. For example, the system limits charging when prices are flat and maintains only a safety reserve.

Dynamic and capacity tariffs

Accounts for hourly tariffs and local mechanisms (such as the capacity tariff in Flanders) to simulate and reduce the overall bill, by controlling the battery and certain flexible uses.

Advanced reports and statistics

Detailed dashboards: consumption/production breakdown, self-consumption, self-sufficiency rate, annual summary, comparison between fixed and dynamic tariffs, and more.

Responsive web interface

A responsive web application, accessible from a desktop browser, tablet or smartphone, with clear navigation and themed pages (tariffs, forecasts, monitoring, technical logs).

Results and benefits

The project enabled the client to take back control of their consumption and their bill, with a better understanding of the energy flows and of the impact of different control strategies.

Reuse and industrialisation

Fluxi HEMS's architecture was designed to be generalisable to other installations, with the ability to manage multiple sites, offer standard profiles (PV owners, installers, SMEs) and provide a multi-user portal.

The project also serves as a technical showcase illustrating OZ-Technology's ability to design complete solutions, from field data collection through to the web interface and algorithmic optimisation.
